The arithmetic

What each one actually costs a small employer

Take a business with three people on payroll. Both prices are in Canadian dollars, both are the published regular rate, and neither includes sales tax.

Xero's Canadian prices above were read from xero.com on 17 October 2026: Starter C$25 a month, Standard C$60, Premium C$80, with promotional rates for the first three months. Promotions change and so do list prices — check theirs before you decide, the same way you should check ours.

The payroll

Payroll in the price, not beside it

No Xero plan in Canada includes payroll — it is run through a partner product and billed separately, so the number on the pricing page is never the number you end up paying. Nummo Pro includes full Canadian payroll: CPP, EI, income tax, T4s and records of employment, with no per-employee surcharge.

  • CPP, EI and income tax calculated from CRA's published tables
  • T4s, T4As and records of employment included
  • No per-employee fee, no separate payroll subscription
  • Québec handled too — Revenu Québec rates and French documents

The ceiling

An entry plan you don't immediately outgrow

Xero's Starter plan is C$25 a month and stops at 20 invoices and 5 bills — hit either and you are on Standard at C$60. Reconciling your bank automatically is a further C$5 a month on that plan. Nummo Starter is C$25 with no cap on invoices or bills, and reconciliation is simply part of it.

  • No monthly limit on invoices, bills or receipts
  • Bank reconciliation included, not an add-on
  • Sales tax for every province from the first plan up
  • Your accountant's seat is free on every tier

The country

Canadian-first, not a region setting

Xero is a New Zealand company serving Canada as one market among many. Nummo exists only for Canada: sales tax worked out by place of supply, payroll reconciled against the authority that issues the rates, French client documents for Québec, and your books kept in a Canadian data centre rather than abroad.

  • GST, HST, PST and QST by province, automatically
  • Payroll matched to CRA and Revenu Québec calculations
  • Client documents in English or French — Bill 96 ready
  • Hosted in AWS Canada (ca-central-1), and it stays there

The move itself

We migrate your books for you, free

Export from Xero and send us the file. We bring your records across, and you check the result against your own trial balance before you rely on it.

  • Contacts — customers and suppliers both, with their details
  • Inventory items and services, with prices
  • Your chart of accounts, mapped onto Nummo's Canadian chart
  • Employees, ready for payroll
  • Opening balances that tie to your Xero trial balance

Historical transaction detail stays in your Xero export as the permanent record; Nummo starts from verified opening balances — the same way an accountant moves a client between systems.

We import and map

Records land in Nummo; your accounts map onto a proper Canadian chart.

You verify the balances

Your opening trial balance beside your Xero one. They match, or we fix it.

The honest part

What Xero still does that we don't

Four things, today:

  • Unlimited users on every plan. This one genuinely runs against us. Xero charges by plan, not by head, so a ten-person business pays the same as a one-person business. Nummo Starter includes one user, Pro three, Advanced ten, and extra users are C$12 a month each — your accountant's seat is always free, but if you have a large team and simple books, Xero is cheaper and we aren't going to pretend otherwise.
  • Live bank feeds. We don't have them, and it's a decision rather than a gap. Every feed on the market today works by holding your online banking password, and the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada warns that your bank's protection against unauthorized transactions may not apply once an app has your login. Instead you download a statement file and we read it — works at every Canadian institution, and your password never leaves your hands. When Canada's open banking rules make feeds official and credential-free, we'll turn them on.
  • A deep app marketplace. Xero has had one for years and it is genuinely good. Ours is deliberately small. If a specific integration is the reason you'd stay, tell us which one.
  • Twenty years of being Xero. They are a listed company with millions of subscribers and an enormous advisor network. We are new. If your bookkeeper only works in Xero, that is a real cost of moving, and it belongs in your decision.

If none of those four is load-bearing for your business, the case for Nummo is straightforward: the same money, payroll included, no invoice ceiling, and your books in Canada. If one of them is — wait for it, and we'll be here.
